Greazefest

Hi, Today we had our first family day out since Alyssa's been sick. We went to Greazefest; which is a weekend full of rockabilly bands, custom cars, and so many amazing people dressed like they still live in the 50's. The weather was perfect - so hot it almost felt like summer. And although we had to cut it short (as it all got a bit much for her), we had a fantastic time together.

This was Alyssa's favourite car - purple of course.

She insisted I take a photo inside as well.

This "Munster" car was amazing.

Another Munster wagon - the artwork on this was incredible - and it came complete with a coffin in the back.

This is definitely how I DON'T want to see either of my sons' cars looking, although Josh and Chris thought it was a laugh. Can you believe this was actually for sale - "rust is free" said the sign LOL.

They also had old caravans, complete with the kitchen in the back.

This van was in mint condition - full of 50's gear inside.

I have recently recovered from a severe respiratory infection, followed by a four-day migraine this week, so today was truly a wonderful day for all of us.

Say Cheese

Hi, My eldest son, Joshua, loves every aspect of photography - from taking the photos, trying different effects with exposures, to then creating different masterpieces using the computer. As I like to match a card to the person, this is what I came up with for his birthday earlier this year.

When it stands up to reveal the sentiment, you notice the little mouse peering out.

All the images are from Create A Critter. I've painted over the black cardstock with silver shimmer paint, and acetate has been used for the "glass" lens.

These are a few of Josh's favourite photos tucked in behind the camera.

How cute are these little mice ???

Card - Elegent Evening

Hi, This is one of my favourite cards, and was featured recently at Scrappy-Go-Lucky. It makes me think of days gone by – a time when men were gentlemen – a time of elegance.

The dress is coloured using watercolour crayons, and the man’s suit is heat embossed in black. The stamp is from Graphic 45.

For the background, I embossed the Core’dinations Whitewash with cuttlebug folder Jamara, then sanded the top layer to reveal the pattern. This is very effective, and can be achieved particularly well with the Whitewash collection. The lace is cut from Martha Stewart Elegant Cake Art.

The cream doiley in the background is from Paper Lace.

These flowers are from Stretch Your Imagination sized at 1 1/4″, 1 1/2″, and 1 3/4″. They’ve been coated in black glitter, layered, and a pearl added to the centre.

This card was for the Printblocks Creative Block in May, and only certain products could be used. I’m really happy with the end result. Hope you like it too.

Frosty Cupcakes!!

Hi Everyone, Sorry my blog posts have been a bit sporadic lately, but things finally seem to settling into a routine now, so I hope to be again posting regularly.

I made this birthday card for a very special friend, Shelley (whose favourite colour is also pink). I was having fun experimenting with the new Imagine cartridges, and for this card I chose to use "Imagine Yummy” - check out the gorgeous colours and swirls of the images on this card.

I have used only the Core-dinations white cardstock for all the images below. This card prints and cuts beautifully with the Imagine. Isn’t the “happy birthday” paper gorgeous?

I’d also like to show you this really cool technique I heard about last year with SU. To achieve a look of real frosting on the cupcake, simply cover the area with Tombow multi liquid glue, leaving uneven swirls as you go.

Liberally cover the glue with embossing powder. You could use any colour, eg brown for chocolate frosting, but because my image was already pink, I used clear powder with some glitter mixed in.

You then heat emboss until it bubbles up, let the bubbles settle, and heat again. You may need to repeat this a few times until all the glue has dried.

Real frosting…. What do you think?

I added my two layers to the base image using foam dots to add extra dimension.

These flourishes and gifts were all cut at 1″ – and glittered accordingly.

And the sentiment was also cut at 1″, base image only, with a little bling added.

The Cats Have Come To Play

Hi, Just a quick post tonight, so I thought I'd show you a couple of cards I made last year with the Lite cartridge, "Meow". It's a fun cartridge with playful cats getting themselves in all sorts of trouble. I love this one tied up in a ball of wool.

All my boys love cats, so this cartridge is used a lot. How cute is this one hanging out with the socks...

Update on Alyssa - April/May

Hi Friends, Sorry I've been MIA for a while - we've had houseguests 5 weekends in a row, numerous trips to hospital, and normal everyday stuff in between. Mandy's been over from Perth and we had fun at the Copics Projects Course in April, and the Printblocks Creative Block with Tracey earlier this month.

On my last post, we were waiting for a rescheduled date for Alyssa's surgery. Originally the surgery was to insert a line into her tummy (for the Peritoneal Dialysis (or PD), and remove the catheter going into her heart (used for the Haemodialysis (HD). Unfortunately, a few days after the cancelled surgery, Alyssa had to start back on the Haemodialysis. This meant that they now couldn't remove the original catheter until the PD had started - which therefore meant two surgeries instead of one.

Anyway, we got a date for the first surgery - Tuesday 19 April. The day before, we spent the day as usual in hospital with Alyssa having her dialysis, but then she started to feel quite nauseous on the way home. By 7.30 that night, she was vomiting so violently that she popped a rib. Then her urine turned bright red again, and she was so sick she asked for an Ambulance to take her to hospital. We rushed her in and had 3 doctors immediately attending to her. Their first thoughts were perhaps a blocked bowel, an infection in the line leading to her heart, or perhaps a urinary infection.

Thankfully it was none of those things, so tests were then done on her liver and gallbladder. Also, something weird was happening with her blood - a number of blood tests were taken, but they were unable to conclusively get any results. Obviously the surgery was cancelled for Tuesday.

The vomiting finally stopped Wednesday morning, and as all tests had so far come back clear, they decided to go ahead with the surgery on the Thursday. It went well although the poor darling was in extreme pain (they called me down to recovery to help comfort her). They gave her plenty of painkillers, so much so that she was also on oxygen for a while. Then on Friday during dialysis, her line completely clotted off which automatically stops the machine. They tried to give her some medications through the canula in her arm, but unbelievably that had clotted off too. I was then obviously concerned about any clots going directly into her heart through the line, and about 1.30am on the Friday night she started having chest pains. The pain seemed to be more in her lungs than her heart, but they organised an ECG and chest x-rays to be sure. They also tested for the return of the Goodpastures Syndrome, as if she gets it back, it will be in her lungs.

It would have been one of the worst weeks we have had, and in the end, they couldn't find anything. No diagnosis for all these things. Good - but frustrating. We came home late on Saturday night, and she then recovered quite quickly.

While she was in hospital, Alyssa received a visit from two Easter Bunnies - one very suave...

Since then, we've had a few intensive days of training for Peritoneal Dialysis, had 2 pallets of boxes delivered to the house, and I am now doing the dialysis myself - 10 hours a night - scary. We've also been able to bring her blood pressure down (finally) with a new medication. There are a few unwanted side-effects, but we can live with these.

We now wait for a date for her next surgery (to remove the catheter), then the next step is meeting the transplant team. Although transplant is not possible before January, we want to be as ready as possible before then.

The year seems to be going so quickly on one hand - but really dragging on the other. If only there were more hours in the day. It's strange how your life can completely change - and a funny example happened when Mandy was recently staying with us, and we were all sitting around the dinner table. Now, normal dinner conversation would be - "How was your day?" "What did you do at school today?" etc. etc. But this was us - "What was her blood pressure this afternoon?" "How were her levels at the hospital today?" "Have you had all your tablets?" It didn't occur to me until I looked at us through Mandy's eyes, and thought it was absolutely hilarious.

Anyway, we're all getting there, and thankful every day we're all still together. My eldest celebrated his 17th birthday on Thursday (I can't believe it), and we all had a wonderful day.

Alyssa and I whipped up a "cookies & cream" cake ...

And we enjoyed a special birthday dinner at a steakhouse ...

"April Flowers" Blooms

Hi, A few days ago, Scrappy-Go-Lucky's awesome "April Flowers Competition" was announced - win your very own CRICUT IMAGINE. Today's "Two Up Tuesday" on Scrappy-Go-Lucky features some flowers Alyssa and I created for Mandy.

These are Alyssa's - I think they resemble some type of bottlebrush flower.

She worked on these all afternoon, colouring each flower centre with a Lemon Spica pen and then glueing them on.

Here's a photo of the leftover cardstock - she's going to use it as backgrounds for some cards.

These are my blooms - I loved using the colour combo of brown, green and turquoise.

Pipe cleaners, wire, and florist tape was used for the branches.

Apart from the pinecones, everything is cut from the Mother's Day Bouquet cartridge. I used Puffy Velvet pens on the petal edges and the stamens - and loved the end result.

I found the cut for the pine-cones on Gypsy Font - and of course, had to add some glitter somewhere.

This is my Baby's Breath - I "borrowed" some of Alyssa's leftover flowers.

Alyssa Update

Hi, I would like to start this by thanking all of you for your continued support. The phone calls, emails, and cards always put a smile on Alyssa's face - and that is priceless for us.

I'd also like to add that Josh and Chris have been amazing. They can get forgotten in all this, but their lives, too, have been turned upsidedown. They are there for her everyday, helping her however they can, and spending so much time with her. They are pretty special for teenage boys, and I'm very proud of them.

Now for Alyssa's progress - A couple of weeks ago, on a Wednesday night, her blood pressure hit an all time high, but luckily by lunch time the next day, it had come back down. She then enjoyed four days of feeling really well - she was playing with Josh and Chris, actually had a little jump on the trampoline, and she happily did a little retail therapy (as all girls do!!).

On Monday, she became very unwell while we were at the hospital, and they advised that her kidneys were now down to 10%. She became worse and worse each day throughout the week - and this seemed to peak on Saturday - she was sick all day and all night. Then, on Sunday, she started to feel a little better and hasn't been too bad since.

Alyssa was scheduled to have surgery tomorrow (Tuesday), but we found out tonight that it's had to be postponed. We'll find out tomorrow what the next course of action is, so I'll keep you posted.

Engagement Card!

Hi, This is the card featured today on Scrappy-Go-Lucky. I fell in love with these gorgeous lovebirds from the Imagine "Better Together" cartridge; and when Shelley’s daughter, Jessie, recently became engaged, I thought they would be perfect.

The background is from the "Paper Lace" cartridge, and I've added ribbons, pearls, and a crocheted doiley.

I love the way you can layer different aspects of images with the Imagine cuts.

Starlight Fairy

Hi, A couple of weeks ago, for some reason, I decided that I should make a yellow card - certainly not a colour I usually use. So, using this gorgeous Whoopsi Daisy digi stamp, this is what I came up with for the CopicOz Challenge - a little Magic.

I've added stickles to her wings, and used a Spica gold glitter pen to highlight her hair and the edge of the star. The following Copics were used to colour the image.

Skin: E50, E51

Hair: E33, E35, E37

Dress: Y06, Y08

Wings and Star: Y0000, Y00

I used Y00 to colour the white ribbon used in this flower (instructions on how to make these gorgeous ribbon flowers can be found here).

Of course, I just had to use my glow-in-the-dark glitter again... it's so much fun.

Happy Birthday Alyssa!!

Hi, Sorry I'm a bit late posting this. We've had a busy couple of weeks (see an update on Alyssa in the post below).

Alyssa was able to celebrate her Birthday "at home" with her family - yeeaah!! Do you remember her favourite "sick" teddy from a previous post? Well, I decided he should star on her birthday card.

I wanted him to look fluffy so after colouring him with my Copics, I added some texture to the image using the colorless blender solution with a piece of flannel.

I then popped him up on an "Action Wobble" spring so he wobbles all over the place.

I recently found some Martha Stewart glow-in-the-dark glitter, and couldn't wait to try it. Doesn't it look cool?

I crocheted the edging and added these gorgeous flowers from Kaiser to frame the bear.

Even though it was a week late, it came together in the end.

Alyssa's Birthday!

Last week we celebrated Alyssa's Birthday. Here are some photos of her special day.

* Alyssa and Josh checking out her new iPod.

* And 'Raymond' - the new addition to the family.

* Shelley made Alyssa this gorgeous set of drawers (which she absolutely loves). Thank-you Shelley.

All Alyssa wanted to do was to go out to a restaurant - here she is enjoying some dessert.

* As chocolate is not an option for her at the moment, gummy bears were chosen to stand guard around the cake (we've learnt gummy bears and frosting don't really go together). "Superstar" was the theme.

* Me and my gorgeous girl.

Alyssa has also managed to go to school for a couple of hours over the last 2 weeks. We did a powerpoint presentation for her class and friends so they could understand where she has been, and why she looks a little different now. This was a very positive experience for everyone involved, and her classmates asked some fantastic questions. I think they were quite in awe of her having had so many surgeries, and having so many medications to take each day.

Now for an update on her treatments. She started on her fifth round of Chemotherapy last week (this one apparently is a gentler form of chemo, and will be daily for six months). Also, her blood pressure has become very high again over the last 3 days. Another trip to the hospital yesterday saw another increase in her medications. She's taking a while to adjust to these newest medications, but I'm sure that will settle down soon.

Over the last month we've been able to keep her levels somewhat stable through diet and medication, so she's been able to have a few weeks respite from the Haemodialysis. As this is just temporary, and as we are trying to give Alyssa some normality in her life, we have decided to do Peritoneal Dialysis at home each evening until the transplant. This will mean another surgery to insert the lines into her tummy which should happen over the next few weeks.

Anniversary Card

Hi, Last month was our Anniversary, and this is the card I made for hubby using the new Imagine. It was featured last week at Scrappy-Go-Lucky.

Apart from the base card, everything was printed and cut from Core-dinations white cardstock. This is great cardstock to work with - it cuts beautifully on the Cricut, and it is textured on one side and smooth on the other. Either side can be used depending on the look you are after.

I cut the base image of the ice-cream sundae (from the "Imagine Yummy" cartridge), and then recut only the ice-cream layers. The ice-cream ends up being 4 layers.

This cute sentiment is from the "Imagine Better Together" cartridge, and I thought it was very appropriate for the occasion.

The fork and spoon are two of the layers from the above sentiment. I cut them separately, and added glossy accents.

Mandy's Birthday

Hi Friends, Mandy celebrated her birthday last week, so today I thought I'd show you the card I made for her; which was recently featured at Scrappy-Go-Lucky. I’ve really enjoyed exploring the different posssibilities with the Imagine and decided that I wanted to use flowers from the Mother’s Day Bouquet cartridge combined with the gorgeous paper patterns from the Imagine cartridges. 90% of this card is made with Core-dinations White cardstock - the colours and patterns were added with the Imagine.

I love all the different shapes.

And this gorgeous birdcage is from "Serenade".

A beautiful background doiley.

Clear embossing was used to alter the look of this plain cardstock.

Alyssa and Mr Cricut

Isn't this just a gorgeous photo. A couple of weeks ago Alyssa was readmitted to hospital as her blood pressure was consistently extremely high. She was naturally upset, and I hated to leave her alone, but I needed to race home to grab some clothes, toiletries, etc. When I arrived home I found a parcel at the door, quickly opened it, and a "bug" popped out. The lovely Jane (Scossie Jane) brought him home to Perth all the way from CHA LA, and sent him to Alyssa. It was perfect timing - the look on her face when I walked back into the hospital with him was priceless.

He now has a special place near Alyssa's craft desk. Thank you so much Jane - you brightened her day at the best possible time.

Watch Gift Box

Hi, I'm finding small amounts of time here and there to get back into "The Pink Room". We have a lot of birthdays happening this time of the year, so I think sometimes necessity is a really good thing.

Alyssa and I have been having so much fun discovering the 'ins and outs' of the Cricut Imagine (an enormous birthday surprise from Mandy - thank you so so much!!!) I made this cute little gift bag for hubby which was featured on Scrappy-Go-Lucky last week.

This sentiment was printed and cut on the Imagine. I could have printed it as one layer, but decided to do two to add some extra dimension.

The watch was cut from 'My Community'. The clock face is on page 9, and the watch straps are actually 2 of the crayons from page 13. The clock face was covered in glossy accents to give a shiny finish and a brad was used to attach the watch hands so they could spin. The wrist straps were embossed using Animal Prints cuttlebug folder, and then some darker ink was added using a dauber.

Alyssa Update

Hi Friends, I had a few spare minutes so thought I'd check in and say hi and give you an update on Alyssa.

To all of you continuing to check my blog and send messages of support - THANK YOU. It really does help all of us to know we are in your thoughts.

For those who don't know the background, early in November, she suddenly became gravely ill. Over the next few days, her condition deteriorated rapidly and she was transferred to ICU. After numerous tests including a kidney biopsy, "GoodPasture Syndrome" was diagnosed - an extremely rare condition. Alyssa has spent a lot of time in the Intensive Care Unit, and is undergoing numerous treatments including Total Plasma Exchange, Chemotherapy, and Haemodialysis. She is often hooked up to various machines for 10-12 hours a day.

Initially we were assured she would make a full recovery, but the disease was much more aggresive than first thought. She went into full renal failure in late December.

After two months in hospital, we came home early in January, and continue to go into the hospital every second day for her treatments. This has made a world of difference to her - getting to sleep in her own bed and spend time with her brothers.

Her kidneys are currently functioning at about 15%, but this is expected to decline over the next few months. Unfortunately due to the nature of the disease possibly spiking again, she will not be considered for a transplant for twelve months. Alyssa still has a very long road ahead, but we remain positive.

Alyssa has said I can post some photos of her journey over the last few months.

* I organised for her favourite radio personality, Camilla, to visit as well. This was the first smile we had seen in days.

* Of course, a visit from Santa was a must.

Hi Friends, I've been MIA recently due to a family illness.

As a few of you may know, my daughter (Alyssa) has been very ill in hospital and still remains there. She is undergoing treatment and we are hopeful she will be home for XMAS.

Thank you to those who have been checking in on her condition regularly and offering support and chatting on the phone. The constant support we have received has been overwhelming, and I would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers.

Hi, After holding a stamping class today, I realised I haven't actually done a lot of stamping lately. When Tracey put me onto a new card challenge blog at Scrapbook City, I decided to put this together.

These gorgeous flowers are from the Lite cartridge "Bloom". They're cut at .5" / .6" / 1" / 1.5".

The stamp set and papers are all from Stampin' Up. Isn't this little girl a cutie?

Happy Birthday Tracey !!

Hi, Tracey is celebrating her special day today, so I would like to wish her the Happiest of Birthdays! Tracey deserves everything wonderful that life has to offer, and I hope she has a fantastic day.

This is the card I made for her. I chose this digi stamp from Whoopsi Daisy as I think she looks like the birthday girl. She reminds me of Cinderella going to the ball.

I've used the Cuttlebug Roses folder for the background, and an SU punch for the border.

One of the reasons I love the Copics, is that you can colour anything to match. Apart from the blue paper, everything on this card started as white, and was coloured to match the main image.

The happy birthday (cut at 1.2") is from Create A Critter, and the scalloped oval is from Easter 2010. It was actually a circle doiley, and I resized it into an oval using the Gypsy. The white is cut at 1.6" x 3.2", and the blue at 1.75" x 3.5" after using Hide Contour Feature for the holes.

Whip It Up Wednesday's Copics Rose !!

Hi, Today is the first of Scrappy-Go-Lucky's new fortnightly challenge - "Whip It Up Wednesday". For each challenge, held on the first and third Wednesday of each month, you will need to Whip Something Up to meet the criteria of the challenge.

The first challenge: Use colouring in some way to enhance your cricut cuts. Click HERE for all the details.

I enjoy using all the "toys" in my craft room, and try to use a number of them together on projects. Therefore, incorporating my Copics with my Cricut was fun. I decided to try a card using just the base or shadow cut of an image, then colouring with Copics to see what effects could be achieved. This is what I came up with.

This beautiful flower is from "Rock Princess". As you can see below, I cut only the base image (sized at 3 1/2"). I've left the guide cuts to serve as reference points when colouring.

Below is the first layer of colouring. I've used R32 to colour the flower area first.

I've then used R35 / R37 / R59 to bring depth of colour and dimension into the flower. The blender pen is a must-have when using Copics. It literally pushes the ink away. I've used it here to create the dots in the centre to represent the stamens. The leaves are coloured using G17 / G28.

Shimmer paint has been swiped very lightly over the flower, with sections then highlighted with Glaze pens and glitter. I also added a couple of extra leaves around the edge.

Below is the same rose put together with the different layers as normal. I've inked around the edges and added some glitter.

Kitty's Birthday Bed!

Hi Everyone, A friend of mine recently celebrated her birthday. As she loves cats, this gave me the perfect opportunity to have a closer look at the Lite cartridge "Meow". I think this image is quite cute.

The image and all layers are all cut at 7cm, and the sentiment and papers are from SU.

While the cartridge was out, I decided to make a few more. Here is another easy card using the Craft Concepts embossing folder - Sun Rays - as the background.

The "Queen Cat" and layers were again cut at 7cm. I've inked around the edges of the cat, and lightly stamped over it with some lambswool to give a "furry" look. I kept this card quite plain so it could be used for those male cat-lovers in your life.

Moonlit Mermaid - Colouring Techniques

Sorry I'm a day late, but as promised, here is a step-by-step tutorial showing how I coloured the lily pads and moonlit lake with the Copics. The only colours used were C1 / C3 / C5 / C7. Below is the image stamped with Memento Black Tuxedo ink.

I started with the C7, and did small feathered brush strokes along the inner edge of the lily pads to about one third of the way out. I always find it easier to have the image facing a way that is comfortable for colouring.

I then used the C5, and did the same - overlapping a little on the C7, and extending it about two thirds out.

Lastly I've used the C3. Starting at the top (at the edge of the C7), and colouring slowly, I use upward strokes pushing and blending the inks as I go to the edge. Try to do these steps straight after each other so the ink stays damp on the cardstock.

Now for the moonlit lake. To achieve this look, I started with C3, and very lightly, using feathered strokes, brushed inwards around the edge of the lake.

Again, using C1 and the feathering technique, I've started at the edge, going over the C3, and extended the strokes so they join in the middle.

Using the 0 Blender Pen, and with the image upside down, I started under the moon and brushed side to side moving upwards to the edge of the C3 near the mermaid. I then did the same again in a narrow line down through the middle.

Lastly, using the C1, I used feather strokes from the outside edge inwards but not quite joining in the middle. This evens up the tones and blends the colours together.

The lake was finished off by adding some ripples on the water with a white Glaze pen.

Moonlit Mermaid - Fantasy Blog Hop!

Hi Everyone. Welcome to Up Late 2 Create, and Day 5 in the Scrappy-Go-Lucky Blog Hop. Sadly Mandy left last night after her surprise visit which went all too fast. We've had an amazing few days (and late nights), and I can't wait for the next time we get together.

I hope you're all having fun checking out everyone's "Fantasy" creations. Don't forget, each day until 2nd November, Scrappy-Go-Lucky will be giving away one Scrapcessories Cartridge Caddy with one Cartridge Insert. These are ideal for storing your Cricut cartridges, particularly the solutions and seasonal cartridges. The prize will be posted anywhere in Australia - International blog-hoppers are welcome to enter but will need to pay postage costs.

As you are all probably aware, I am totally addicted to my Copics and these Sweet Pea designs, and I enjoyed combining the stamped image with Cricut cuts. Using only the colours "black, white and silver" presented quite a challenge with colouring, but when they were finished, I was quite pleased with the end result. What do you think?

The image used was “Spring Night” by Ching-Chou Kuik, and she was coloured using Copics – C1 / C3 / C5 / C7 / BV23 / BV29 / BV31 / 100 / 0.

To add extra definition to the image, I used black and silver Glaze pens on the tail, and a clear Glaze pen on the moon, the eyes and the water line. I also used a white Glaze pen to define ripples in the lake, and to add dots to the flowers, before sprinkling them with diamond glitter.

The clear Spica glitter pen was used to add a touch of glamour to her eye shadow and to the flowers in her hair (click on the photos to enlarge). The mermaid is then framed in black cardstock. The inner frame is from Storybook sized at 3 ¼” x 2 ¾”, and the outer frame is from George & Basic Shapes sized at 5 ½” x 3 ½” (though it actually didn’t cut at that). I used the Gypsy to line up placement of the frames.

One of the folders from the Cuttlebug Companion set “Art Deco” was used on the left side of the frame. After lining it up in the folder, I placed a rubber shim where I wanted the embossing to stop, then only partially ran it through the cuttlebug machine.

The two willowy reeds were cut from Life’s A Beach – one at 2.3” and one at 2”. These were cut in white, and one coloured with BV23, and one with BV31. I then lightly sponged them with SU shimmer paint in Platinum before adding glitter to the ‘flowers’. These were adhered to a Kaiser silk flower which was also sponged with the Platinum shimmer paint and folded in half.

Some ribbon and a couple of rhinestones were then added to finish.

Surprise Visit !!

Hi Everyone, I had the most wonderful surprise early this morning. The doorbell rang at some ungodly hour, and as, half-asleep, I opened the door, this lady asked if I was having a garage sale. What a surprise, it was MANDY, all the way from WA. I was completely stunned as I had only been on the phone to her a few hours before.

We had a wonderful day attending the Copics Certification Course here in Brisbane (and plan to have some amazing things to show you in the coming months).

H20 Water Fun

Hi, I've been busy catching up with a few neglected chores this week, so I thought today I'd show you a recent project designed for Scrappy-Go-Lucky. I really enjoyed working with the H2O Cartridge and decided to do something a little different with it. My children always enjoyed playing with magnets on the fridge (I think I did too), so I've made a "game" where they can create a multitude of scenes.

The Gypsy isn't needed for this project, but I've used it so I could do a number of cuts in one go. It also makes it easy to work out exactly how much cardstock is required.

Once I added all the layers to the different images, I used all different accessories to add highlights and dimensions. The pool below is cut at 6 1/2" and I've added Crystalina Kindyglitz to the "splashes" on "CannonBall" to look like water droplets. I've also used the Souffle Pens to highlight the edges of the pool and diving board, as well as the waves.

Very little was needed to highlight this. I used a white Souffle Pen on the flag, and highlighted the edges with a deep blue Glaze Pen.

"Mum and Dad" are cut at 4 1/2", and I found the people on this cartridge different to work with. Usually the skin tone is the base image, and the clothing makes the layers - but on H2O, the colour is the base, and the skin tones are the layers. I've used Copic Markers to add highlights to the skin (as you can see the Dad is nicely tanned), and also to colour and highlight the hair, flowers, and shirt; and then Glaze Pens around the swimsuit and bag. I've used a VersaMark Pen to draw the design on the surfboard, and heat embossed it with white powder to make it shine.

These three little munchkins are all cut at 4", and I have again used the Copic Markers and Souffle Pens - (someone's knees are getting burnt).

The ball is cut at 2 1/2" and the sign at 3 1/2". I used a texture to stamp on the post, and the Tim Holtz Woodgrain embossing folder and ink for the sign.

The suncream bottle is sized at 2" with very little added. The sun has crimson glow glitter inside, and diamond glitter on the rays. It's sized at 3 1/2".

This cute bucket is cut at 3", and has been embossed with Cuttlebug Tiny Bubbles, then highlighted with Glaze Pens.

The sandcastle was stamped with a texture, and I've used a glue pen to add sand (lucky I had a beach display in a bottle). It's cut at 3 1/2" and is my favourite image here.

Once I'd finished all the highlighting, I laminated and cut them out. Unfortunately I forgot to take photos before laminating, so a lot of the detail is hard to see. Once laminated I attached some magnetic tape to the back of each image.

Now it's a fun game for toddlers (to keep them amused while mum cooks). Alyssa is having fun modelling below.

Thanks with Lacy Labels

Hi, I wanted to let my friends know how much I appreciate them, so I've made a collection of 'Thank You' cards with the new Lite cartridge "Lacy Labels".

This cut is called "Flower 7" and is sized at 4 1/4". I've used the Gypsy and welded two images together to keep the frame shape. The card has been inked around the edges, and spritzed with Perfect Pearls. I've distressed and glittered the edges of the layered flower, after stamping with a script stamp, then added a button to the centre. The card is embossed with Craft Concepts 'Budding Vine'.

This image is "Buttrfly" and was cut at 3". I've folded the layered butterflies in half to add dimension. Cuttlebug folder used was 'Jules Jewels".

This cut is called "Asian", and is sized at 5". Again the layered flowers were distressed and glittered, and the background embossed with Cuttlebug 'Roses'.

"Flower 1" is the name of this cut, and it's sized at 3 1/4". The tulips on the end have been adhered with foam dots, and glittered around the edge. Cuttlebug 'Swiss Dots' was used on this one.

This image is cut at 3 1/4", and is called "Thnkg You". I've added a cute dragonfly (CM punch), and used Craft Concepts 'Dragonfly' for the background.

This last one is called "Soar" and is cut at 3 1/2". I removed the word soar from the image, and again stamped the layer with a script stamp. The background for this was embossed with Cuttlebug 'Birds & Swirls'.

All these finished cards are about the same size, so this shows how deceiving the cut sizes can be. I hope you like them.

Not So Sweet

Hi, A quick post tonight to show a layout recently shown on Scrappy-Go-Lucky. As soon as we saw the new cartridge, "Rock Princess", Tracey and I knew it was perfect to use with these photos. We were on our way to a "Pink 'n Punk" party.

We've used DoubleMates cardstock "Pretty in Pink" and "Heritage". The papers and bling are from Kaiser (as is Tracey's nose stud LOL). To match the green perfectly, the rhinestones are all coloured with Copic Markers. The sweet banner below (and all layers) are cut at 2 1/2".

We wanted to make use of as many of these wild sentiments as possible.

With the exception of "Bad to the Bone" which was cut at 1.5", and "Beautiful but Dangerous" which was cut at 1.7", all sentiments and layers are cut at 1". The pink cuts are all glittered generously with Pink Soda to really make them stand out.

We loved the way these words are "Sugar and Spice" at the same time.

We had a lot of fun creating this layout. Hope you like it.

Card - Road Trip

Hi, I hope everyone has had a great weekend. With Spring in the air (apart from all this rain), and because a few friends of mine have just embarked on a road trip, I thought I'd show you another card made for Scrappy-Go-Lucky using Summer Vacation. You should head over to their blog. There is a prize of AU$100 up for grabs to be spent in the SGL store. It's easy to enter, but you'll have to be quick - the comp. closes in 24 hours - 12 midnight Monday Perth time.

For this card I chose a modern Winnebago - then added a touch of sixties flower power. The van is cut at 2 3/4".

For the background, using the Cri-Kits gel pens, a subtle background of maps, signs, and arrows is drawn in gold glitter.

To add definition to the van and words, Cricut Ink Markers were used to draw the images first. Then, without unloading the mat, hit "Load Paper" again, replace the marker with the blade-housing, "Repeat Last", then cut. The same technique can be used with the Cri-Kits Gel Pens for a more subtle outline.

I used some scrunched up stripey paper for curtains .....

and old x-rays make perfect tinted windows.

I inked around the edge to give some definition and shadow, and drew in lines for door frames, etc. I then added some ink and glaze on the tyres - and of course some glitter.

This cute little bike is from "Everyday Paper Dolls" (page 57). It is cut at 1" and adhered to the background..

The van is then attached using foam dots.

Friendship Fairy

Hi, Last week a friend of mine was feeling a little overwhelmed by everything going on in her life. I decided to make her this card to let her how much I appreciate her, and that the strength of a friendship can overcome many things.

This lovely fairy design is from Whoopsi Daisy, and I have coloured her with my Copics. I found the gorgeous flower stems in a discount store a few months ago and have been looking for the perfect project to put them with.

I've had so much fun recently entering challenges that I've decided to enter her into the following:
     Whoopsi Daisy - paper piecing
     Cuttlebug Spot - Pink (love / hope / strength / faith)
     Stamp Scrap & Doodle - open challenge
     Cuttlebug Challenge - breast cancer awareness
     Magical Monday - back to nature (I've chosen Spring flowers)

Dandelion Dreams

Hi, I'm slowly getting my coloured fairies all made into cards. I didn't realise how much colouring I had actually done, but I really love working with these gorgeous fairies. This is one of my favourites with the whispy dandelions and soft tones. I've only added a few embellishments so the image stands out. The sentiment is from Stampin' Up.

Of course I've added some glitter to her wings, and used a Spica pen to add just a touch of sparkle to the dandelions and cat's fur.

I've entered this card into the Sweet Pea Stampers "Charmed I'm Sure" Challenge; as well as the challenge at Crafty Sentiments Blogspot - we need to use a border punch.

Retirement Card

Hi, Today I'd like to share with you a card designed for Scrappy-Go-Lucky."Summer Vacation" was released a few months ago, but as we're coming into the warmer weather, I thought it'd be good to go back and have a look. As many retirees now travel the world, the different images come together to make a nice retirement card.

Unless you have Design Studio with the Hide Contour Feature, and as there is no shadow feature on this cartridge, it is impossible to cut the suitcase without the straps and corner cuts. I really wanted this as a feature on the card, so I cut it out of the paper as below. (It is cut at 2").

I then lined up the area on the mat, and using the Cri-Kits gel pens, drew the message on the dark blue layer of the card. The retirement message is 1" and has been put together using the lovely "Gypsy Font". (Pack your bags is 1 1/4", and is from "Summer Vacation"). Both fit in the same size suitcase.

I inked around the edges, added a little more detail, some brads, and put it together...

These modes of transport were all cut between 1/2" and 1", and all have a touch of silver on them.

They are adhered to vanilla cardstock with a little inking.

The bus and ship are on separate pieces of card and attached using foam dots for dimension.

A few more brads with some ribbon to finish. Hope you like it.

Autumn Under the Sea

Hi, I have made it my goal to use every colour in my Copics pen collection. I found a fun challenge site called the iCopic Lover Challenge which puts different colour combos together. This weeks colours are orange, brown and yellow. Although these are colours I'm definitely not used to working with, I'm quite happy with how this turned out.

Here is a close-up of the mermaid. Although it doesn't show in the photo, I've added glossy accents to her tail to make it look wet.

I've also entered this card in the Magical Monday Challenge - another fun site. Their challenge this week is magical underwater. As well as the Crafty Sentiments Challenge - Autumn Colours.

Bride with Buttons & Bows

Hi, The Cuttlebug Challenge for this week is to design a card using an image, a bow and at least 2 buttons. Whoopsi Daisy is sponsoring this challenge with their digital images, and as I love colouring, I thought I'd check them out. I couldn't resist this one - isn't she just gorgeous.

I've used the copics to colour her, and chose a pale pink for her dress rather than the traditional white. I couldn't find the right ribbon in my stash, so I layered a thin satin ribbon over a wider organza.

The "Roses" Cuttlebug folder is used for the background, and the edge is punched with the SU Scallop Trim punches. The flowers are inked around the edges, glitter added (of course), and layered. The buttons are then set in the centre.

I've also entered this card in the Whoopsie Daisy September challenge......create a card with all things flowery.

Card - Amethyst Mist

Hi, As I haven't been able to do much over the last couple of weeks, I've been spending a lot of time colouring. I mainly used the Copics, but then decided to do some images using Watercolour Crayons. The crayons are used on this card, and as I love all the Sweet Pea stamps, I thought I'd enter it into the "In A Sweet Pea Dream" challenge.

Here is a close-up of the colouring. It is very similar to the Copics, although much softer.

To show you the difference, I've coloured the same image twice - the left with the Watercolour Crayons, the right with the Copics. I've tried to match the colours to give a similar effect.

This is a Stampin' Up image - again the Watercolouring is on the left, and the Copics on the right.

I hope this gives you another technique to try when colouring your images. I'll have some more to show you over the next few days.

Hi Everyone, I would like to thank each and every one of you for your warm thoughts, good wishes, and phone calls to keep me company during the last few weeks. I am truly blessed to have such beautiful friends and family.

Fairy Fantasy

Hi Friends, Magical Mondays is a new site that started last month and their challenges must include something magical. Below is a card I have created for their third challenge which also includes flowers. I used a fairy from the Sweet Pea Stamp range, and coloured her with my Copics.

I have used flowers from the Stampin' Up Pretties Kit, glittering the bottom layer with Kindyglitz, and lightly inking the second layer a light pink. I have also coloured the pearls with my Copics to match the colours on the fairy.

I've stamped the white cardstock with a pale pink floral design to form a pretty background.

The photo below is taken on an angle to try to show the beautiful glitter effect that can be achieved with the Spica Pens. I've used gold to highlight her hair, and silver on the dress. Crystalina Kindyglitz has been used on the wings.

Then, when you pull the ribbon up, the card "explodes" showing the hidden message inside.

The heart is cut from George & Basic Shapes on the Cricut, and I've bordered it by making small loops with a soft pink ribbon.

I love this fairy - I think she's now my new favourite.

Unfortunately I won't have any new posts for a week or so as I need to have surgery. Hope you all have a great week and I hope to be back on-line really soon.

Well today's the day - my young man is turning 14. He loves the colour green, and is always practicing on his guitar, so I combined the two and came up with the following:-

The Hannah Montana cartridge doesn't only have to be for the girls. I love the fonts - and one looks like sheet music. I've used this sized at 1/2". I tried cutting it out, but the lines were so fine they kept breaking - so I drew the image with the Cri-Kits Gel Pens and then coloured the letters to make them bold. The background is stamped with a Kaiser stamp to add a subtle effect.

The guitar is cut at 1 1/2", embossed with the Rellie Rave Cuttlebug folder, then glossy accents added. The shadow is cut in black, and the layers in brushed silver paper.

To give them an authentic look, I've used needle and thread for the guitar strings.

The card is then finished off with some star brads for my "SuperStar of the Day".

Card - Football Frame

Hi, I've been making some cards for Chris' birthday on Saturday. This one is for Josh to give, and is made using the "Sports Mania" cartridge. I've used the football (sized at 5") with the cartridge's frame feature - welded two together and used the Hide Contour Feature so the back piece was plain.

I then cut a football in white using the shadow feature, and attached the cut-out pieces from the frame to layer for the stitching. I've also sponged with ink so the football looks like it's old and worn (just like Chris' well-used football).

As the DoubleMates cardstock is double-sided, the white is charcoal on the back. This then shows through with full effect on the inside of the card.

The little footballs are cut using the border feature - welding 4 images together - and highlighted with a white Souffle pen.

I thought I'd also give you a sneak peak at something I've been working on for Scrappy-Go-Lucky. Can anyone guess what it might be?

Belle

Hi, Tonight I wanted to share another couple of cards coloured with the Copics. I love this stamp - she is called Belle from Rubbernecker Stamps.

I can just imagine her in every colour of the rainbow - might try a sunshine yellow next time.

This is a card made for a very dear friend's birthday. Her favourite colour is greeen, and I've used another of the Sweet Pea fairies.

This pretty flower is cut from the "Bloom" cartridge, with the edges curled and some glitter added.

My crazy week is over with another about to begin; but at least I've had some time over the weekend to do some projects.

Hi Everyone, I am in the midst of a crazy week, so just a quick post today. As Scrappy-Go-Lucky is now stocking the Copic Markers that I love so much, I thought I'd share with you a couple more cards made with the Sweet Pea Stamps, and coloured with the Copics.

I particularly love these two images - can't decide which is my favourite. What do you think?

Inked Hot Air Balloon

Hi Everyone, Here is another card made with the Cricuts Cuttables Embossing Kit and the hot air balloon image from "Summer in Paris".

I have used vellum card and embossed it with the hot air balloon folder. Using a dauber, I added ink to the back and then adhered it to a white cardstock with brads.

I have added some ribbon and a sentiment for another simple but effective card.

The same technique is used below with a Stampin' Up Sizzix embossing folder. As you can see, the image is slightly sharper, but the overall effect is the same.

A few weeks ago, I promised to show you some cards made with the Cricut Cuttables Embossing Kit.

I used the hot air balloon image from "Summer in Paris".

First I tried some plain cardstock through the cuttlebug. While the image did work - I found the embossing wasn't as sharp as when used with Cuttlebug or Sizzix folders.

I then tried it with some metallic cardstock. This did work better.

They still made up into great backgrounds on the cards below.

I would use these again, especially for use in something you wish to personalise such as for invitations or wedding stationery. And, as mentioned in the earlier post, I would definitely choose something a little less intricate next time.

I have also used it with a different technique, and will show you this in my next post.

By The Silvery Moon

Hi Everyone - and Welcome to Day 5 of the Scrappy-Go-Lucky Blog Hop. Remember, the colour scheme is black, white and silver - but what is the theme ???

This is the card I made using the "Summer Vacation" cartridge.

To achieve this background of a beautiful, shimmery moon, I started with a piece of Glossy white cardstock.

Using some sponges, I covered the whole sheet with a very pale gray ink.

I then attached a 1 1/4" circle with some repositional adhesvie, and sponged it again with the pale gray.

Moving out a little from the circle, I sponged with a darker gray.

Then moving out further again, used the darker gray for a second time.

Lastly, I sponged the edges with black ....

Finally removing the circle.

To finish up the background, I then used the edge of the sponge to add a few shimmery silver clouds (they don't show up very good in the photo). This technique also works well with different colours - yellows into oranges, and blues into purples.

The silhouette of the girl is from "A Childs Year", cut at 1 1/4". The tent is from "Summer Vacation" and is cut at 1 1/2", then highlighted with a silver gel pen. I have adhered the cut-outs from the tent flat to the card, but the main tent image is mounted on foam dots to add shadowing and dimension.

The tropical palm trees are also from "Summer Vacation", cut at 2 1/2" and 3", and again highlighted with a silver gel pen. The smaller tree is adhered flat to the card, and the larger one with foam dots.

There are numerous grass images from Gypsy Wanderings ranging in size from .3" to .45". Using the Gypsy, these have been welded together from largest to smallest, and adhered in layers of two and three.

Gazebo Table Centrepiece

Hi - I know - the Gazebo again. But, this time for my DT project for Scrappy-Go-Lucky I thought I would try something a little different and made this 3D gazebo.

The base layer, the Gazebo, shadow and all layers are cut at 2 1/2". I've used the Gypsy for this design and imported 6 shadow images onto the mat. As both sides of the gazebo differ, I've flipped every second image, then slightly overlapped the edges before welding together.

To make it easy to join the ends of the gazebo, George & Basic Shapes was used to add 2 rectangles - sized at 1/2" - to weld to one side (you can just see them on the right side of the photo below).

As you lose some of the image when you overlap, I have cut an extra 3 single pieces of the shadow and adhered them to the 1st, 3rd and 5th gazebos on the row. These are also sized at 2 1/2".

All layers were then cut and adhered - making sure the pieces for the 2nd, 4th and last went under the top shadow pieces.

I have added rhinstones and extra glitter to the main 3 cuts as they stand out more. Below is a close-up of the layering where you can see the overlapping shadow piece.

By adding a vase of flowers to the centre, it has become a cute table centrepiece.

Card - Welded Gazebo

Hi, As mentioned earlier, I absolutely love this gazebo image on the Freshly Picked cartridge. I wanted to make this card in the gazebo shape so using the Gypsy, I sized a gazebo shadow cut at 5 1/2". I used the shadow feature to do this so the front image is highlighted when the card is finished.

I then duplicated, flipped, and welded the two images at the three widest points.

Using the hide contour feature, I erased the inner cuts for the back piece to create a solid image.

As the welding caused one side of the gazebo to be smaller, I cut a second shadow image for the front of the card (the photo below shows the back of the card where the front layer overlaps).

I then cut the main gazebo image and layers (again at 5 1/2"). I watercoloured on the left edges of the gazebo for shadow (doesn't really show in the photo), and highlighted the vines with glaze pens. There are flower cuts as one of the layer features, but I have used some pretty forget-me-knots (with a touch of glitter) for extra colour and dimension.

Using Sure-Cuts-A-Lot, and this pretty floral font, I lined up the words "FOR YOU" to show through the columns. It is always best to practise first on scrap paper before drawing or cutting on your final creation.

Lastly I added a champagne coloured rhinestone to the top of the roof to finish off.

Card - Tulip Box

Hi, Today I thought I'd demonstrate another fun feature on the Freshly Picked cartridge. Each image on this cartridge has a frame with a matching cut along the bottom. I have chosen my favourite flower for this card - pink tulips.

The tulip image has all the layers to make this gorgeous planter box full of tulips. This has been cut at 2", and I have embossed the outer layer with Tim Holtz Woodgrain. I've also added a couple of cute little glittered butterflies to soften the lines of the planter box.

Here is a close-up of the framed border. I've used white with pink background paper behind the tulip box, and pink with white background for the cut border.

I have sized the overall frame at 5", and with the Gypsy, it is duplicated and flipped. After using the hide contour feature on the back section, the two pieces are then welded together before cutting. Below is the card when it's open. I've used a small tulip bouquet stamp for a subtle background on the front of the card, and added a couple to the edge of the pink inside the card. The pink area also makes a great area to write your sentiment.

I've used these cute little tag punches from Stampin' Up with thread wound around the side to finish the card.

Card - Welcome Gnome

Hi, I just love garden gnomes, so when I saw a few on this cartridge, I just had to do a card with one. I have based his clothing (and expression) on one of my own gnomes.

I wanted to try colouring this little guy with my Copics, so I used the Cri-Kits Gel Pens to draw the image, then used the shadow feature to cut around him. The gnome and shadow are both sized at 3 1/2".

After heat-setting the ink, I coloured his face, hand, legs, and shirt and pants only. I used a Peachy-Keen "Basic Paper Dolls" stamp, but only inked his nose and eyes.

I cut layers for his hat, belt, and boots at 3 1/2" and attached these along with his whiskers. Shiny silver card was used for the belt buckle.

As I used the shadow feature to cut around the image, I sized another shadow at 3.7". This shadow is adhered flat on the card, and the gnome is attached using foam dots. This way - even though the shadow doesn't quite line up, it's not noticable.

The starburst background is cut from Plantin Schoolbook at 3.7", and has been embossed with the Tim Holtz Woodgrain folder.

After adding some interest to the plain white background, I added some ribbon and flowers with rhinestones, and a welcome sentiment as I think gnomes are friendly little fellows.

Card - Framed Rose Bush

Hi, There are so many beautiful flowers and herbs featured on the "Freshly Picked" cartridge, I decided to do another framed card - this time with a Rose Bush.

This card is made exactly the same as the Framed Petunias - the only difference being that it's portrait so the folds are lengthways.

The rose bush, shadow and layers are all cut at 3". I have added swirls to the greenery with Glaze Pens to add a little dimension, and the flower edges have been curled up. A Creative Memories punch was used for the cute little butterflies.

A friend makes up these useful kits (shown below) which make excellent background and dimension patterns. I have used one of them to create the effect on the rose bag.

Another great feature on this cartridge is the cute little seed sachets. This took about 2 minutes to put together, and there is a seed packet to match every image on the cartridge - flowers, herbs, vegetables, fruit, and even garden tools and gnomes. I think they're quite cute.

Card - Framed Petunias

Hi, I know I'm a little late, but as promised, this week I'm going to show you some of my recent DT projects for Scrappy-Go-Lucky featuring the "Freshly Picked" cartridge. I thought I'd begin with this bright pot of petunias in a self-standing framed card.

Two pieces of card are used cut at 6" x 4". Using George & Basic Shapes, and lining up the placement on the Gypsy, an oval is cut in the centre of the front piece sized at 3.5". Using the Scor-Pal, score two vertical lines - 3/8" and 6/8" - in from each side (as shown on the left below). These lines are then folded, one up and one down (as shown on the right below).

The back piece is also scored and folded with the same measurements.

Again using George & Basic Shapes, I cut an oval at 4 1/4" from a pretty lilac paper, and adhered this to the centre of the back card.

Before the card is put together, I attach all ribbons, etc. so that the ends can be hidden between the two layers. Adhesive is then applied to the two outer folds, and the two card pieces are joined. The photo below shows a view of the card from the top.

This beautiful pot of petunias, layers, and shadow are all cut at 2.1". Cardstock used is DoubleMates, and I have used my Copics to form a shadow on the side of the pot. Of course a little purple and gold glitter is added for sparkle. The pot is attached with foam dots for extra dimension.

The light green leaf layer left some smaller leaves as extras. As I don't like wasting anything, I have used these to highlight the sentiment. One reason I love the DoubleMates cardstock is that, being double-sided, one cut gives you two different coordinating looks - light and dark. The sentiment is from Stampin' Up; and I've added a couple of brads on the ribbon, and also stamped some small flower stems on the main card front for a subtle background.

First Cricut Class

Hi, The first of our monthly Cricut Classes kicked off today with a Basics Class aimed at those just beginning their Cricut journey. Below is a peak at the cards we made using the George & Basic Shapes, and Storybook cartridges.

These heart cards were fun to make - they are two separate hearts that are joined and spin with a brad.

I thought these two were really cute with a sparkling sky in the background.

Thank you to all the ladies who attended - with your eagerness and laughter, it was a fun afternoon. We are sure you now have the confidence to plan and create some wonderful pieces.

I would like to say a huge thanks to Shelley whose hard work and dedication helped made the afternoon such a success. I look forward to many future classes with my "partner in Cricut (crime)". I must also thank the star-assistant of the day - Alyssa - whose help was invaluable. And a special thanks to Mandy and Scrappy-Go-Lucky who supplied the girls with some discount vouchers for Cricut products. I'm sure they will make good use of them.

Card - Teenage Girl

Hi, I wanted to use some of the gorgeous girly images on Forever Young, and have made this bright waterfall card which I thought would be perfect for a teenage girl.

When you pull the bottom tab, the images flip up one by one.

When it is completely pulled down, a hidden sentiment is revealed.

21st Invitations

Hi Everyone, What a busy few days we've had. My ever-helpful assistant, Alyssa, and I have spent the last 3 full days making the 21st invitations - 65 in total. We used 3 cricut mats in constant circulation - Alyssa worked on one, I worked on one, and the Cricut worked on the third (my poor Cricut needs to rest). We then stamped, dry-embossed, heat-embossed, folded and glued. They were ordered based on the "25 years" card I made for my husband a few weeks ago; and here is the mock-up we made for the final approval.

This card is made exactly the same as the "25", although the inner rectangle is larger as the "1" is smaller than the "5". The cuttlebug folder used is "Diamond Plate", and all stamps are from Stampin' Up. We also made coordinating envelopes ...

Follow Your Heart (To Paris)

Hi, I am currently working on a large invitation order for a 21st, so today I thought I'd share with you one of the DT cards I recently made for Scrappy-Go-Lucky. I have used Summer in Paris - loooove it - all the designs are so pretty and intricate. One of my favourite cuts on this cartridge would be these gorgeous hot-air balloons (imagine them floating past the Eiffel Tower).

The pale plum matt (with distressed edges) and balloon cut is from the Kaiser "Made With Love" collection - it actually has shiny pink hearts that can just be seen among the swirls. The balloons and shadows are all cut at 4".

After adhering the top layer - before the glue dried - I covered the balloons with glitter so it would stick to the edges of the swirls, it looks really pretty.

The sentiment is from Stampin' Up, and is on a pale plum tag with some inking around around the edges. The scalloped layer was embossed using the Cuttlebug "Distressed Stipes" folder.

The dark balloon and sentiment were adhered using foam dots to add dimension.

I then added some organza ribbon to finish. Voila !!

Card - 25 Years

Hi, Sorry for the delay between posts - school holidays here in Queensland and I've been spending some quality time with my family.
Today is 25 years since Peter (my hubby) started employment with Energex, and they marked it with a special lunch and presentation. Here is a card I made for him to mark the occasion.

Using the Gypsy I've welded a flipped 2 shadow image to the left of the rectangle, and a 5 shadow to the right.

It's then folded to line up as below ....

I then cut and adhered a 2 and a 5 in some striped paper so they would stand out.

The white timepiece featured on the front of the card is also stamped inside. As I only wanted a subtle background image, I used Versamark to bring out the pigment of the cardstock.

Rose Gazebo

Hi Everyone, I have had fun over the past week playing with one of the new cartridges - Freshly Picked. My favourite image on this cartridge is this gorgeous gazebo.

The shadow feature and layers make this a very easy cut to put together. I've watercoloured the edges of the gazebo, and added some glitter to the curled petals of the flowers.

Some pretty background paper and a sweet sentiment is all that's needed to finish this card.

I've also completed a collection of cards using this cartridge for Scrappy-Go-Lucky - be sure to check them out over the next week or so.

Hi Everyone, You have probably noticed I refer to the "Pink Room" from time to time, so I thought I would just do a quick post tonight and show you some photos of it.

Being an organised person (as my friends will tell you), I like everything to have a home, but be within easy reach. Following are some photos that may give you ideas on organising some of your craft supplies.

My lovely friend, Julie, showed me a magazine article where they arranged punches on towel rails. I thought this was a brilliant way to clear some shelf space. Plus, you can see my Cricut mats on a hook to the left. It is very quick to hang them again after use ...

Leah made me this cute card guide for punches (thank you Leah). It is so easy to check sizing by simply holding the card over what you wish to punch. I added the covers with my name and phone number in case it's misplaced at a workshop.

To save time when coordinating colours for projects, I cut a piece from each DoubleMates sheet and attached them to a ring. It is always within easy reach and used all the time ...

My new Copics (I love them). I have coloured each petal a different colour pen, so now at a glance, I can see which colours I want ...

And now - just some pretty stuff. My Cricut (it had to match my pink Cuttlebug) ...

Card - Birthday Bikes 2

Hi Everyone, I have had an overwhelming response to this card, and many requests for the full instructions. I like to answer every email personally, but thought I would also post the instructions here as it is so popular.

Cardstock –
Green – 15cm x 10.5cm

White – 15cm x 10.5cm
12.5cm x 7.5cm

Bike is from Every Paper Dolls cut at 6cm

The green card is cut up 2cm from the bottom and 2cm in from each side (stopping 2cm from the top (this should give you a cut of a 3-sided rectangle in the centre of your card). It is then scored (up from the bottom) at 3cm / 5.25cm / 7.5cm between the cut edges. This is then folded as shown below.

Before putting the card together, line up the 2 larger pieces of card and punch a tab from the middle top. The smaller piece of white card is then attached to only the bottom section of the cut rectangle, making sure it doesn’t overlap. The two large pieces are then attached with adhesive applied to the bottom and two sides only.

The bike is adhered to only the middle fold at the front.
Attach some ribbon to the top of the small piece to make it easier to pull up.

Your finished card then slides open, making it easy to line up where you would like your sentiments.

Unfortunately I don't have step-by-step photos for this particular card, but if you click here, there are full instructions with step-by-step photos for the Pop-Up Bunny card. Although it is a larger, portrait version, the basic cuts and folds are the same.

Hi, I have found another card made last year for a friend's birthday. As he was getting a bike, I thought this pop-up birthday bike card would be fun for him.

The bike image is from Everyday Paper Dolls, and the background is stamped to add a bit of interest.

When you pull the tab on top of the card - the bike pops up and secret messages are revealed inside.

A side view - you can see I have stamped above and written below the pop-up bike. This card can be adapted for any celebration. Click here to see the Easter Pop-Up Bunny.

Card - Towels For Two

Hi Everyone, This is a very simple (but effective) wedding card made for my niece. Apart from a Scallop Edge Punch, only the Cuttlebug was used.

First "Mr." and "Mrs." was heat embossed in black, then the two pieces of white card were embossed using the Cuttlebug. These were then edged (in black) with a Scallop Border Punch.

A small strip of brushed silver card was adhered using small foam dots, and attached flat at both ends with brads.

A piece of silver ribbon in the corner, topped with a pretty silver filigree flower and a black rhinestone, to finish the card.

I, unfortunately, made an error in sticking my hand to the element in the oven on Wednesday, so have been unable to do much craft-wise (these things happen). I will definitely have something new to show you in the next few days, but it has been fun looking through some cards from last year and sharing them with you.

Storm - 13

Hi Everyone, Tonight I would like to show you a special card I made for my son, Christopher, when he turned 13. The main cartridge I used for this was Paper Doll Dress Up.

I have used blue gel pens to add detail to the clouds, and also watercoloured around the edges of both the clouds and the grasses.

This cute little guy is dressed in the Melbourne Storm colours (his favouorite footy team). I cut the outfit twice - in blue and maroon - and cut to shape accordingly. Boy - those lightning strikes (especially on the shorts) were fiddly.

The goal-posts are large brackets cut from Lyrical Letters, and the football actually spins up and through the goal posts.

A view from inside the card. The football is attached to a 5c piece, then a foam dot, then another 5c piece. This give it the weight it needs to spin.

Layout - Turning 5

Hi Everyone, Today I wanted to share with you a double layout done for my daughter's 5th birthday.The theme was Fairy Princesses (of course).

The first page.....

I have used the gorgeous Kaiser collection “La-Di-Da” for these pages as the bold colours suited my daughter’s party dress perfectly.

This precious sentiment is a rub-on from the Kaiser “Sugar and Spice” set, and is perfect for this layout.

These gorgeous flowers were made using the 2cm paper flowers. I used 7 flowers (one green and 3 in red and white). They were then layered, a hole pierced in the middle, and attached together with a small brad. I then started with the top flower and scrunched it up in the middle. Taking one layer at a time, they were all scrunched around the first, then spread out as much as required. Glitter was added to the edges.

The heading was cut from one of the matching sheets, and the letters were welded together with the Gypsy. It was then heat embossed with clear powder to make it stand out. I also used diamond glitter on the number 5 (as all little girls love their glitter).

Using the matching 6” Paper Pad, I chose coordinating patterns, cut in differing sizes and shapes, to matt the photograph and embellishments.

The glittered flowers are cut from a page in the 6” Paper Pad, and the gorgeous tag on this page is one of the punch-outs in the back. (I love these Paper Pads – they are so versatile).

Never Forgotten

Hi, Today marks twelve months since my much-loved Father-In-Law passed away. To honour his memory, I thought I would post this plaque that I made for each member of the family.

The 11" plaque is woodcraft and I have painted the bevelled edge in gold. The backing is a photograph of Jacaranda Trees (his favourite), faded out to a watermark, with his photo and the text printed on top.

The front was then covered in Liquid Gloss which forms a thick, hard, glass-like finish.

I made a similar one when my Grandfather passed away. They are lovely keepsakes for family.

Cricut Cuttables - Embossing Kit

Hi Everyone, I received this a while ago, and have been waiting for the right image to come along to try it. It's a kit where you use your Cricut machine to cut any image on to an embossing sheet, then adhere it inside a blank embossing folder.

I love all the flourishy images on "Summer In Paris", and decided on the hot-air balloon. Because of all the tiny pieces in this cut, this took an absolute age to do, so I think I will choose something a little less fancy next time. Below is a photo of the embossing folder when it is closed.

This is the folder when open. You adhere half the image to one side, then the second half to the other side. It is then used as a normal cuttlebug embossing folder.

I am just putting some finishing touches on some cards made with this and will be posting them on Scrappy-Go-Lucky. Check them out over the next few weeks.

Now, yesterday I promised to show you some cards made with my new goodies from the Papercraft Convention. Here they are.....
These four gorgeous images are "Sweet Pea Stamps" and are only now available in Australia.

The photo below is on an angle to show you the very subtle glitter highlights (not sure if the photo has picked it all up). I have used the Spica clear glitter pen for this - it is very subtle, but shows out more if drawn on un-coloured card.

This is the second card (Alyssa's favourite).

I finally took the plunge and invested in some Copic markers, and I have to say - I absolutely love using them, and experimenting with the blending. These cards are all coloured using the Copics.

Green is not normally a colour I go for, but I quite like how this turned out. The flourishes are from "Stretch Your Imagination".

Can you all guess what I have been doing all weekend? I'll keep practicing blending with the Copics, so hopefully the next ones will be better. Alyssa has had fun with them too, and will be posting hers tomorrow.

Card - Rainbow Wishes

Hi Everyone, A fun day was had by all at the Brisbane Scrapbook & Papercraft Convention yesterday. Shelley has posted a few photos on her blog - check them out here. I have had fun today playing with my new goodies, but alas, have not quite finished. Will have some new cards to post tomorrow.

In the meantime, thought you might like to see a card made with "Once Upon A Princess". This gorgeous rainbow is just too cute to ignore. I have made the base card in hot pink sized 5 3/4" x 11 1/2", and all the images are cut at 4".

The rainbow "shadow" is cut in turquoise, with the main rainbow in green. The "shift" image is in the bright pink, and the layer in turquoise. The clouds, of course, are fluffy and white.

Once the layers are put together, I added some Kindyglitz around the stars and clouds, and the eyes, for sparkle.

The background is white card cut at 5 1/2" square. I have used the Scor-Pal to make 1" scores diagonally - first one way then the other. I then used the Crystalina Kindyglitz (which throws a pale pink colour) along all the score lines to highlight them. This makes a pretty, but subtle, background effect.

A hot pink ribbon is used to finish off, with birthday wishes added to the bottom right of the card. A very simple, but pretty card, for any little (or big) girl.

Tropical Paradise

Hi Everyone, and Welcome to Day 5 of our "Round the World With Cri-Kits" Scrappy-Go-Lucky Blog Hop. I hope you are all checking in daily to pick up the clues.

I too, live in Brisbane in sunny Queensland, and my absolutely favourite place to be is on Hamilton Island on the Great Barrier Reef. You can literally walk out your front door and snorkel to see beautiful fish and colourful coral all around you. It is like being in another world - and I wanted to recreate that amazing experience with a 3D Tropical Fish Tank.

The Gypsy was a must for this design - I used 15 layers. The first was to cut the front panel of the tank at 11 1/4", the 12x24 mat was needed for this. Unfortunately I couldn't find an acetate sheet large enough, so I have used an A3 Document Protector. The second step was to draw the star-fish and bubbles with the Cri-Kits gel pens. I then coloured these in with Glaze pens to give a stained-glass effect (you can still see the smiling faces on the star-fish).

The same steps were applied for the back panel, but I only went over the top part of the sea-grass with the glaze pens. The clear plastic is very hard to photograph, and unfortunately it hasn't shown the gel-pens on this piece.

The first layer of the tank is the "water". I used the Cri-Kits gel pens to draw the outline of the coral in "Glitter Orange", and the sea-grasses in "Metallic Dark Green".

The image was then cut.

The same process was used for the "sand" layer and I used Cri-Kits "Pastel Mauve" for the starfish, "Glitter Gold" for the shells, "Metallic Green" for the seaweed, and "Glitter Dark Silver" for the stones.

To save constantly reloading the mat, I lined up the images on the Gypsy, worked out the sizing, and cut everything at once.

The sea-grasses and coral were cut smaller than the Cri-Kits drawings to give more dimension. The sea-grasses were embossed using Cuttlebug "D'vine Swirl", and the coral with "Rellie Rave" - and of course, plenty of glitter was added to emulate sparkling sun through the water.

Thought you might like to see a shot of the creatures as they came to life. Different parts of these were embossed with Swiss Dots, Tiny Bubbles, Textile, Perfectly Paisley, and Candy Cane Stipe. The fish are layered on both sides so they can "swim" freely.

I chose random sections of each creature to highlight with glossy accents, then sprinkled each lightly with diamond glitter.

The back section is coming together ...... Each of the creatures have been attached using different sized foam dots to add a multitude of dimensions. I love the sea-horse with his tail around the coral.

To make this stand up, I cut a piece of acetate and folded it (like a fan) till the desired length was reached as shown below.

I then took the remainder and adhered it to the back.

Acetate was again used to keep the top separated. This piece is sized at 10" x 4 3/4", scored at 1 3/8" on each side. I attached the sides to the top of the tank with large silver brads, and cut around the lip of the tank making the piece invisible.

After working out placement, holes were pierced in the "base" of this top piece. Fishing line was affixed to the middle of the fish as I was glueing the layers, which is now threaded through the top piece allowing the fish to "swim".

I adhered some oyster shells over the base piece to hide the folds. You can also notice the Cri-Kits on the "sand" layer adding some extra colour and dimension.

Layout - In Love

Tonight I thought I would show you another layout. I wanted to do something that was simple but elegant to frame and hang on our bedroom wall. The papers I chose are from the Kaiser Gypsy Sisters collection, the colours of which match perfectly with our clothing and bedroom.

This gorgeous cut is from "Tie The Knot". The red heart is a layer that I embossed with the "Kimmy Luvs" cuttlebug folder. I then carefully applied glue to the embossed part and sprinkled with a crimson glitter.

The beautiful piano is from "Summer In Paris" - my favourite cartridge at the moment. The pale lemon layer underneath is the same as the backing sheet, but I inked around the edges with burgandy ink.

The two flourishes are cut from "Stretch Your Imagination" (in differing sizes), and they are topped by beautiful flowers, lace, and a skeleton leaf kindly donated from Tracey's stash (Thank-you Tracey). The wooden flourish is Kaiser which has been inked first with burgandy, then red, then glossy accents applied.

I added just a little paper-piercing, and some pearls in the corners. I have decided to add some of the lovely pearl flourishes that Jane loves using, but haven't yet been able to find any in our local craft stores.

I hope you like it. I will post another photo when it is hanging in its new home.

Layout - First for Josh

Hi Everyone, Isn't this Blog Hop fun. Hope you are all checking in each day with Scrappy-Go-Lucky to pick up the daily clue and the next stop on our "Round The World" trip.

To follow on with Joshua's 16th Birthday recently, I thought this layout summed up this exciting time in his life perfectly (exciting for him - scary for us).

Each letter is cut and shadowed, and highlighted using glossy accents.

Josh loves red, and being a teenage boy, doesn't want anything too fancy. The papers are Kaiser's On The Dot, so I continued with this theme.

Now, having 3 kids who love watching Spongebob Squarepants, I have sort of become a fan (but don't tell anybody!!). As yellow is not one of my favourite colours, I changed him, and made this "Spongebob PinkPants" to hang on the wall in the "Pink Room".

I decided to modify him further, and for Christmas last year made these cute snow-globe cards for my children. This one is dancing Spongebob PurplePants for my daughter, Alyssa.

After embossing with the Swiss Dots Cuttlebug folder, I put white gel pen and glitter on each dot to represent falling snow.

Meet Spongebob RedPants for Josh. This was a little different as I attached it to a card base.

This is Spongebob Greenpants who is doing Parkour (Chris' favourite past-time).
